What the snapshot says

The Atlas is broad enough to expose patterns, but not balanced enough to rank countries. The United States accounts for 2,247 visible records and has comparatively strong location and website coverage. That scale reflects both a large maker community and deeper source collection.

The clearest warning is the United Kingdom: 387 records make it the second-largest country group in this snapshot, yet only 17 carry city data and 31 carry an official-site field. Volume without comparable field coverage is a research backlog, not a competitive league table.

Australia combines meaningful depth with strong structured coverage: 205 of 216 records include a city and 170 include a website. Spain and Germany are smaller cohorts, but both clear the launch thresholds for focused country discovery pages.

Method and limits

The snapshot includes active records in the guitar-builders-luthiers category, including active secondary category membership. Records resolved to another canonical listing are excluded. Country aliases are normalized for the United States, United Kingdom, and Spain before aggregation.

“With city” and “with website” measure whether those maintained catalog fields are populated. “Published facts” on launch-country links counts records carrying at least one fact marked published or verified; it does not mean every fact was independently verified. At extraction time, no fact rows in these launch cohorts carried the stricter verified status.

The dataset changes as records are added, corrected, merged, or enriched. This edition freezes the aggregate at . It should not be used to rank maker quality, economic output, or the true size of a national craft community.

Corrections are welcome. Each maintained profile provides the path for owners and readers to submit evidence, while the aggregate CSV supports reproducible review without exposing private contact or operational data.
